💧BASIC STRUCTURE OF EACH SESSION 💧
We meet within a four-hour window on Sunday afternoons, with the understanding that we can shift—with the seasonal cycle, and in response to feedback from our community. Here is a basic outline:
💧Opening and Invocation
We begin with prayers/intentions and don our ritual skins—especially welcoming the Spirits of the Waters, Our Guardians, and our Ancestral Guides to our Community Altar.
💧Moving Myth
To open our bodies and psyches to the mythic dimension, our storyteller shares a tale specially chosen for the season.
💧Deep-Diving Dance
We continue to wade deeper into the waters of mythos and psyche through dance and drum, welcoming our wails and our wonders alike, through a combination of ecstatic playlists, live drumming, and music.
💧Prayer Council
After moving in the depths, our team facilitates a circle where participants can bring the medicine of their experience into the collective for witnessing.
💧Closing Circle
We slip out of our ritual skins to close with Gratitudes.
💧Breaking Bread
We close each session by sharing food together to ground back into our lives (some of us can also go down to the sea to offer our Water Bowl and take a dip together, if desired!)

The Selkie Sessions is a tender project of coalescing community, for sacred purpose.  You are welcome to participate if you are someone aligned with our prayerful vision, outlined below, and want to cultivate devotional space with others.Â

💧 SELKIE SESSIONS: THE VISION 💧
The Selkie Sessions asks our community to journey together into ceremony, to build a new kind of congregation where the full and ecstatic expressions of our bodies and voices–our grief, our joy, our outrage, our tenderness–are offered to Source, as prayer.
Through our experience holding numerous communal grief rituals, we have learned that a small handful of long-format gatherings is not nearly enough–that more support is needed.
The Selkie Sessions are designed to meet our need for more regular and more diverse opportunities to recognize and encourage our deepest expressions as devotional offerings to what is most holy in our lives.
Our hope is that these Sessions can help to rehydrate the old Stories and Myths which contain so much wisdom for transformation. After centuries of neglect which has sadly allowed them to dry out, may our ears and our tears bring them back to life.
Each Session is shaped by a rotating cast of deep-diver facilitators: ritualists and healers, poets and dancers, musicians and myth-tellers. We have many amazing and talented folks in our bioregion; these sessions provide a chance to nurture and revive the bardic profession.
We hope also that the Selkie Sessions will ripple out, as other communities can use this design as a template to adapt and for use in their own locale.
It is our prayer that pouring the holy waters of our tears and joy will help animist culture to blossom amidst the ashes of what has been lost.
